The small island of Gili Trawangan off the cost of the much larger Indonesian island of Lombok is rapidly becoming a hotspot for tourists from all around the world. Not to mention a local population that steadily grew beginning in the 1970s with the arrival of settlers and prisoners from elsewhere in Indonesia.
As a result of this growing population and the island’s growing tourist industry, a night market was born. The Gili Trawangan Pasar Malam has become the island’s main place for dining for tourists and locals alike. This night market’s food stalls are of the warung (i.e. small family-owned restaurants in Indonesia) variety, which makes for a much more cozier atmosphere than the traditional night market format found elsewhere in the region. This night market is perfect for sampling the local Sasak dishes, the cuisine from elsewhere in Indonesia, or trying out the local seafood.
If you happen to visit Gili Trawangan, this is one hotspot that you probably won’t miss since it’ll be impossible to miss!
