Boroichi Market

One of the oldest flea market events on Earth is the Boroichi Market, or “rag market”, which is held in Tokyo twice yearly.

Having been an annual event in the city since the 1680s, or Japan’s Edo period, the Boroichi Market is the place to snap up some good bargains on second-hand stuff. Home decorations, antiques, handicrafts, and food stalls are among the offerings at this flea market.

The Boroichi Market runs from 9 am to 9 pm on January 15-16 and December 15-16 of every year between the Kamimachi and Setagaya stations in Tokyo’s Setagaya ward. The closing of the market is announced with strings of firecrackers being lit before everyone packs up for the season!
