Sarawak Night Markets

Malaysia’s Sarawak state is a very diverse place. There are a number of ethnic groups such as the Iban, Melanau, Chinese and Malays who have been part of the ethnic make-up of Sarawak for centuries, if not millennia. Many of these people live and work in cities and towns such as Sarawak’s administrative capital Kuching. As a result, night markets – or pasar malam in Bahasa Melayu – are a necessity for those living and traveling around in the state.

Night markets are also a place where all the ethnic groups living in Sarawak can sell their handicrafts and educate the people of the world about the cultures these little gifts come from.
