Yizhong Street Business District

A daytime view of Taichung, Taiwan’s Yizhong Street shopping and business district circa 2014.

Taichung, Taiwan’s Yizhong (Yijhong) Street Business District is the city’s “shopping capital”! With shops and vendors guaranteed to be open at any hour of the day or night, Yizhong Street is a night market in itself!

Given its proximity to the National Taichung University of Science and Technology, National Taichung First Senior High School (the street’s namesake), and the ever-trendy Chungyo Department Store, young people tend to flock down this street 24 hours a day. Many of the shops and vendors located here cater exclusively to young people. Hence the abundance of fashion shops, smartphone and smartphone accessory shops, and eyeglasses stores that sell chic-looking glasses frames! Some of Yizhong Street’s more unusual offerings include a toilet-themed restaurant and a roasted marshmallow treat restaurant!

As far as food goes, you can probably find whatever you’re in the mood for along Yizhong Street. Shops selling traditional Taiwanese and Chinese treats such as bubble tea shops and papaya milk as well as shops selling Western foods such as pizza can be found here!

No matter if you’re a daytime person or a night owl, Yizhong Street is the place to go to experience a vibrant atmosphere and do some serious shopping!
