Zhonghua Road Night Market

The Zhonghua Road Night Market in Taichung, Taiwan is the oldest in the city. Dating back to the 1950s, it was once a pretty popular place that stayed crowded on any given night. It also set the standards for night markets across the region. However, city development and expansion, heavy motorbike traffic in and around the night market, and the arrival of more upscale night markets such as Fengjia Night Market in Taichung have left the Zhonghua Road Night Market behind in the dust over the past several decades.

Despite its faded glory, Zhonghua Road still has much to offer as far as traditional Chinese and Taiwanese food go and still makes the occasional appearance on Taiwanese TV! This night market is famous for its snake meat, fried rice, papaya milk, steamed roll, and barbeque offerings in particular.

The Zhonghua Road Night Market is open every evening from 4 pm to 2:30 am.
